BIOGRAPHY

GAMMELGAARD Niels architect; born March 20th 1944 in Copenhagen, Denmark;

Student (Øregård Gymn.) 1963; Graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Industrial Design (Professor Erik Herløw) 1970.

Co-owner of BOX 25 Architects from 1969-1978.

External designer for IKEA International 1975-2005.

Co-owner of Pelikan Design with architect Lars Mathiesen 1978-2005.

Has designed furniture for e.g. Fritz Hansen, Bent Krogh (now Magnus Olesen), Frederica Furniture, Erik Jørgensen, Tranekær Furniture (now Carl Hansen & Son), DUBA (now Holmris B8), Fora Form, Matteo Grassi, and Cappellini.

Designed interior for all Copenhagen city trains, DSB 1996. Still serving 600.000 passengers daily.

Designed children's bicycles for Winther Bikes, tank cleaning equipment for Toftejorg (now Alfa Laval), and part-owner of Penta Design 1984-87; Commissioned for the design of electronic service work stations for all post offices in Denmark.

Since 2005 Niels Gammelgaard has worked with furniture manufactures in Australia, China and Vietnam, but first and foremost with Conform collection, SITS Furniture, Magnus OlesenWoodmark International, and Michael Strads.
